karelian stew recipe, karjalanpaisti Finnish meat stew
Karjalanpaisti recipe, Karelian stew or hot pot.
Slowly cooked meat-stew from Finland.
Serves four:
500 grams (1 pound) Beef
500 grams (1 pound) Pork
2 Carrots, peeled and diced
1 tbs Allspice
2 Bayleaves
2 Onions
1 litre (4 cups) Beef Stock
Salt and Pepper
1. Preheat the oven to 150 celcius or about 300 fahrenheit. Cube the meat and
roughly chop the onions. Place in an oven proof casserole dish.
2. Fry in the oven until colored, then add diced
carrots, bayleaves, allspice and beef stock. Cook under lid in the oven for
about 2.5-3 hours. When meat is tender, the dish is ready.
Serve with mashed
potatoes.
